I am passionate about teaching!
Let me introduce myself for those of you who don’t know me. I am Patt Scrivener and I love teaching and sharing my knowledge. Not just about art but about anything I know. I presently teach art workshops and harp lessons.
My teaching career has spanned over four decades. I do not have any formal education or degree in teaching – I have honed my skills by doing it.
I started teaching piano lessons when I was twenty, at 22 I was instructing floral design for the Saskatoon Parks and Recreation.
While owning a flower shop I trained several staff members to design and even helped a Vietnamese girl perfect her English.
I went on to teach full time at Olds College in the Floral Art Program. I taught design, visual merchandising and retail management.
I also taught several evening classes at Mount Royal University in Calgary in Floral Design and helped develop there certificate program.
I worked for Chinook College under the Board of Education umbrella in the adult education department.
It was a natural progression after I became a full time artist to start sharing my knowledge in this field.
My teaching philosophy is simple – if I know it I share it! I wan’t you to get your money’s worth! I believe in content. If you have a question I don’t know the answer to I will do my best to find it.
You learn from me – I learn from you!
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”
I show and tell!
I do lots of demos in the workshops and explain how I do things. Then you have time to try it out yourself. I don’t stand over you but I do keep an eye on what is happening and intervene when I feel it is necessary,
Of course I am always available to answer your questions.
If You are Not Happy
– I’m Not Happy!
I strive to make sure everyone gets a good experience and leaves feeling fulfilled. Although I cannot guarantee you will make a masterpiece (and that should not be an expectation) I can assure you it will be a fun experience. I have many repeat students. My studio has been dubbed “the happy place”
